On September 18, 2025, The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) announced that they have 689Cloud Solutions, Ltd. (689Cloud) to deploy an online system that safeguards lecture videos using Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. This marks the first time in Vietnam that a university applies a modern copyright protection solution for online educational content.
Digital Rights Management (DRM) for Education
In the context of accelerating digital transformation in education, copyright has been one of the biggest barriers. Teaching materials and lecture videos are valuable intellectual property that can be easily copied and illegally distributed without adequate protection.
689Cloud provides the answer with DRM technology – widely used to secure e-books and films – now integrated directly into UEH’s learning management system (LMS). The solution prevents illegal downloading and copying, ensuring content integrity and intellectual property rights.
UEH Vice President, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Quang Hung, emphasized: “Digital transformation allows us to expand learning opportunities for students, but it comes with the challenge of copyright protection. With 689Cloud, UEH can bring lectures online while ensuring the safety of our intellectual assets.”

First DRM-protected Online Education System in Vietnam
The deployment at UEH marks the first application of a copyright-protection system for online lectures in Vietnam’s higher education sector. According to 689Cloud, the company plans to expand the solution to more universities and training institutions after this successful implementation.
Experts believe that copyright protection not only reassures universities when sharing online content but also motivates institutions to expand digital learning resources, thereby enhancing quality and access to knowledge.
