Like Box and Dropbox, SecureDrive allows users to upload and share files with other users. The difference is that SecureDrive includes built-in Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect files when they are viewed online or downloaded. This makes SecureDrive ideal for users that need to collaborate on sensitive documents that include confidential or personal information.

Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is a technology that allows files to be protected when they are being viewed online or used after download to prevent illegal copies and re-sharing. For example, our DRM for Microsoft Office files prevents users from copying information from a protected file to another file, screen captures, and printing to file. Our secure online viewer disables the browser’s developer mode, so that hackers cannot intercept any data being viewed.

You can upload and download any files with SecureDrive. However, the DRM protection can only be applied to PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

Unlike, Microsoft Rights Management, users do not need an account to view or open a protected file. This makes SecureDrive ideal for sharing sensitive information with people outside of your organization.

We have tried to make the user experience for protected files as seamless as possible. For viewing protected files online, all you need is a browser. Downloaded PDF files, can be opened using Adobe Reader XI or newer (including Adobe Acrobat DC). Downloaded Microsoft Office files can be opened on Windows PC’s by installing our Add-in for Microsoft Office.
